Conrad-Johnson PV-5 Tube Preamp (Mint)
Wow!! I sold this twice to people across the world (Italy and Hong Kong) and neither one had money to purchase the unit. With that said, please be prepared to purchase when you bid, so I'm relisting with new pictures and an added set of new tubes for the unit that I forgot I had in my possession.
I have also included pictures of the inside which if you are looking for a preamp of this quality, pictures of the inside is a must. This unit has been service twice by Conrad Johnson, once this summer for a power supply issue, and a few years back where I had capacitors replaced. The current tubes in the unit have low hours and should not need replacement for several years. I do have an extra set of new tubes that come with the unit, so when the time does come you won't have to hunt around the web looking for the tubes. I'm getting rid of this unit because I'm looking to upgrade in the next year and need to consolidate my equipment.
A few weeks ago this unit sold for $681 to the gentleman in Italy and $678 from a gentleman in Hong Kong. This was without interior pictures that shows the condition and the new set of tubes. If you live anywhere besides the US note the costs of shipping internationally.
Shipping is $30 flat shipping which includes insurance anywhere in the 48 contiguous United States. If you are an international buyer expect to pay $100+ for shipping as this is what it costs me.
Here is what Conrad-Johnson has to say about the PV-5:
"The PV5 was a completely new preamp in all areas. The sophisticated circuitry allowed the PV5 to outperform preamps nearly three times it price. The PV5 was the personal choice as a reference preamp for many audio reviewers at the time!
Low noise mil-spec resistors and polypropylene capacitors were used throughout the PV5 and the famous "CJD" polystyrene capacitors were used throughout the signal path. Their wide bandwidth and low sonic "memory" permitted precise attack and decay of musical transients. RIAA phono equalization was set with 1% tolerance parts. Eight factory burned-in vacuum tubes were used in the PV5."
