This is a 10 day sale ending Sunday Sept the 14th at 9pm Eastern and 6pm Pacific Bid with confidence, I have 100% positive feedback. $1.00 Starting Bid and NO RESERVE!
For auction is my JBL L212 speaker system with the matching powered sub woofer. The quality of JBL speakers in the 60’s and 70’s in legendary. During those years JBL research and development spared no expense to design some of the most exacting HiFi speakers ever made. This system, like many of high end JBL speakers were extremely limited and only available through a few exclusive retailers. No expense was spared to create the most technologically advanced, most accurate, best sounding set of speakers ever produced. They were marketed primarily to demanding audiofiles who were willing to pay for the best. This did come at a huge research cost and concequently only wealthy individuals or dedicated audiophiles purchased these speakers.
There were very few JBL L212 speaker systems ever sold and are extremely rare, especially in good condition. I am a huge vintage JBL fan and I have owned many JBL speaker systems and these are speakers are some of the best sounding I’ve ever owned. The high end sparkles with definition, mids are clear and pronounced and the bass is deep and tight. And the imaging is extremely precise. You can hear exactly where each voice and each instrument is coming from! These speakers were far ahead of their time with technology that many speaker manufacturers have yet to master even today. And for the collector this is a piece of audio history. This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION with a $1.00 opening bid. Here is a little information about the speaker components and the specifics behind them: . The crossovers in this set of speakers at their time of manufacture were the most sophisticated dividing networks JBL has ever produced. The transition between drivers is extremely gentle with considerable overlap and because of the roll off rate between crossover frequencies of 6 decibels per octave rather than the normal 12 or 18 ensures NO audible gaps or discontinuities. . The woofers in the satellite speakers are the ULTRA RARE 8" 112A drivers. These woofers feature a huge 7.5lb magnet mounted to a cast cage, 3" voice coil (exact same coil used in many 12" JBL woofers) and are crossed over from 70 to 800 hertz. No expense was spared in ensuring these speakers to have the best transient response and lowest distortion possible from having a extra stiff cone to extra long magnetic gap all the way to the pole pieces in the magnets silver plated to a calculated thickness. . The midrange drivers are JBL LE5-9 5" speakers that were based on the classic cast cage JBL 5" drivers but with a cone stiffness of 2 times the strength of the original. These drivers are crossed over from 800 to 3 kilohertz and are mounted in sub-chambers designed for optimum cone loading and roll off characteristics. . The tweeters are the RARE 066 1" hemispherical radiator that is crossed over at 3 kilohertz to well beyond the limits of human hearing. These unique driver's dome is constructed of resin impregnated linen which then has a thin film of aluminum which is vapor deposited on the outer surface of the dome. This aluminum surface makes the whole tweeter a radiating surface which is far more efficient than a conventional dome tweeter and also handles more power than any other tweeter with the same size voice coil. These tweeters produce a dispersion pattern of 150 degrees horizontal and vertical at 15 kilohertz ensuring accurate high frequency reproduction over a broad listening area. . The original JBL bass speaker was a 12" 121A woofer. The previous owner replaced it with a new 12” Rockford Fosgate Punch woofer. Although the woofer is not stock it does produces a beautiful warm tight ultra bass low end. This speaker is the only part that is not original to the speaker system. All theother component are 100% original. The sub woofer is mated to the JBL amplifier which JBL named The Bass Energizer. This sub-woofer is crossed over at 70 hertz and has a extended frequency response of down only 2 decibels at 25 hertz! Condition wise these speakers are very clean but considering they are over 30 years old do have some flaws. The bases of the speakers do have a few chips and marks from vacuum cleaner contact The main speaker’s grills are very clean with no snags. Actual driver wise, the speakers are in beautiful condition. Shipping is going to be set at $250 to the lower 48 states fully insured.
