100% positive feedback.
$1.00 Starting Bid and NO RESERVE!!!!!!!!!!
Listed here is a very rare
Phase Linear Model 700 Series Two audiophile two channel amplifier.
If you’re not familiar with Phase Linear, they were a local Lynnwood, WA
company founded by Bob Carver back in 1970 who continued to run it until
1977 when he decided to change direction and launch his own company, The Carver
Corporation. At this point, A.P. Van Meter (who previously worked
for McIntosh and University Sound) took over Bob's place as Chief Design
Engineer and Engineering Manager and continued to work for Phase Linear
and designed and engineered the Series 2 components sold between 1978 to
1981. Phase Linear was sold to Pioneer in 1979 who continued to produce
equipment in the Lynnwood WA plant and sold again in 1982 to Jensen which
ended the local Washington State produced products who moved the company down
to Texas. In 1983 the Phase Linear legacy was ended when the ceased
production of home/ professional products and moved to strictly car audio
components.
Enough for the history
lesson, what I have up for auction is a very desirable/ rare Phase Linear
Model 700 Series Two audiophile amplifier. This amplifier is the most
powerful of the Series 2 lineup and puts out an absolutely incredible
360 watts per channel which was often considered an underrated number
as these amps is known to put out far more power. On top of putting out
more power than the Series 1 amplifiers these Series 2 units were also a
much cleaner sounding amp as they had reduced THD and IMD as well as cosmetic
improvements in fact many people consider the Series 2 components to be
some of the most attractive pieces made to date. This amp is extremely
overbuilt with a huge power supply, 24 output transistors mounted on
a massive heat sink setup. At its time of production, the amps
price reached a little over $1,000, around 1/2 the price of a new
economy car at the time! This high price helped to allow only the wealthy/
true audiophiles to justify its purchase making these pieces incredibly
rare and hard to find these days. If you've seen my previous auctions
then you probably know I've been auctioning off all my audiophile stereo equipment
collection to regain space in my house rather than live in a show/ storage room
;). Because of this I'm starting this auction with a $1.00 opening bid
with NO RESERVE!
If you’re looking for a fully
serviced/ great example of one of these rare amplifiers than you've
found it here. This particular amplifier was purchased from a local
Lynnwood gentleman named Dean who runs this website:
http://hometown.aol.com/__121b_wtpdMibanQaH7DHxeLJmoOVPqu3ATQHn .
Dean is the last factory trained Phase Linear service department technician
who worked for the company from 1975 to 1982 who's expertise spans all the
way from the first series one components all the way to the last series three
units. Dean continues to do tech support and keeps in
contact with former Phase Linear engineers and along with his neighbor ED
continue to repair and restore these components in their free time.
This particular amp when
in Dean’s hands was completely gone through and inspected. He replaced
all of the output transistors with matching MJ15024/25 components and at this
time made sure everything was up to factory specs. I honestly believe you’re
going to have a hard time finding a amp of this caliber let alone one that has
been fully serviced by a actual prior Phase Linear Engineer so you can rest
assure that everything was done correctly and not a hack job like many
electronic repair places these days seem to perform.
Condition wise you are going to have a very hard time
finding one this clean. The only flaws I could find cosmetically are a
few very light scratches in the face that are too small for my camera to pick
up.
Shipping is
going to be set at $50 to the lower 48 states fully insured. If you’re
outside of this area you will be charged exact usps shipping which will be calculated
at the auctions end, plus cost of boxes and packaging materials. Out of
country buyers must pay via PayPal and ship to a confirmed address. Please
do not email me asking for a shipping quote, log onto www.usps.com and click
calculate shipping with the following figures: the amp weighs 45lbs and
measures 19" by 13" by 7" UNPACKAGED and are being shipped from
Kirkland WA 98034 USA. Remember this will be approximate quote.
