NATIONAL HRO 60
This is being auctioned for a family member who's father recently passed away. He was a Signal Corp Vet who was over 90 years old. He was a radio enthusiast since he was fourteen years old. I have been auctioning his collections for a year and every Sunday I will be listing more of his items. Since none of these were mine, I am selling them as is. I do know that Bob always said, "If it is junk, throw it out". These items must not be junk because this is what he kept.
This is a National NC HRO "Sixty" General Coverage Double Conversion Superheterodyne 18 Tube Communications Receiver. Also included is the original National Speaker, four plug in coils, and the original instruction manual.
One of the pictures is Bob's "Radio Shack" when his key went silent. The HRO "Sixty" was his "baby" and it sat front and center. This was the radio I remember him using daily.
I hooked up a test antenna and turned it on. At night with the "B" coil and only using the RF and AF gain knobs, I picked up 14 clear stations between 14100 and 14150. They all sounded European, but one was Moscow. During the day I turned it on and between 14250 and 14300 I picked up 10 oriental stations including an English speaking station in China. I do not believe he made any modifications. The four coils are: A 14-30MHZ, B 7-14.4MHZ, C 3.5-7.3MHZ and
D 1.7-40MHZ.
Sorry about the shipping charges, but I have to pack these in two boxes. The radio weighs 60lbs and the speaker and coils weigh 22lbs before packing. The packing will add to the weight.
