RadioCraftsmen C500A Tube Monobloc Amp KT66 Triode Class A - 15 Watts 1952
Exceptional sounding vintage tube mono amp designed by Sid Smith, designer of all Marantz Tube Gear
This is considered one of the most musical amps ever sold in the USA. Used in countless custom hi-fi systems in the early 1950s, this amp was very popular and highly rated. It was produced by RadioCraftsmen of Chicago in 1952 and was designed by Sid Smith, who later worked for Marantz in New York, designing all of their tube equipment.
The C500A produces 15 watts pure Class A power produced by triode-connected KT66 output beam tetrodes. The driver is an octal 6SN7GTB RCA and the phase inverter is an RCA 6SN7GTB. The rectifier is a RCA 5U4G. The KT66 matched pair are new Golden Dragon KT66.
The amp has been electrically rebuilt with new coupling caps and all tubes are testing good. The amp features two power supply chokes, including a huge choke mounted on top of the chassis and one beneath the chassis. The power transformer and all other transformers are original. The output transformer is a Class A, super high quality potted unit specially designed by Sid Smith to extreme standards. Its frequency response ranges from 20hZ to over 100,000 hZ. They cannot duplicate the quality of this transformer today as the super high quality core and lamination material is simply not available at any price.
Due to rust on the chassis, the former owner, beautifully refinished the chassis with an attractive metallic blue-green hammertone finish. The result is a unique and attractive amp with original transformers and very musical sonics.
The amp works perfectly and sounds incredible. These are very desireable amps and sound beautiful. Use this one for a super mono system, center channel amp, or match it up with your single C500A. Note that is is not a C500, which has a much smaller choke and uses a 5V4G rectifier.
